HAPPY HALLOWEENIE TO YOU!

Hi!  Nope, I didn't buy one single bag of candy because no one visits our house on All Hallows Eve.  The first years we were living there we bought candy and then ended up eating it ourselves and when I was in the store last night, I pulled myself away from the good candy deals and just got what we needed.  Between, eating (a bit) less and exercising, my pants are getting a little looser and that doesn't mean I get to eat candy, I'll just eat a fresh fall apple instead.  I did however, look for those caramel wraps to quickly and easily wrap an apple with so I could have a little treat but no, they didn't have 'em; so, a naked apple it is!

I finished my shawl and just have to wash it and then block it; then I'll post next week a couple pics.  This is what I'm working on now.  It looks like a bowl but is it the bottom of my Pilates (yoga) mat.  I wanted a cover for it and so I'm making a crocheted version instead of a fabric one.  I had a coupon for Joanne's and it always burns a whole in my pocket so I went and got a couple skeins of this Red Heart yarn called Collage.  I like it and like how the colors are looking, too.  I'ts all a single crochet stitch but I will probably change the pattern a bit because I always do that.

This is what it looks like right now and will be about 25" high when finished.  Mats are a tad sticky so I just hope it's not like trying to get socks on a baby when I go to put the mat away after class!

My daughter is still in Vegas working temporarily and I miss her.  She sent me this card and I'm sharing it with you!

On the inside it says, "Hope Your Halloween is so Happy, that it makes you Glow Inside."  So I hope your Halloween does make you happy and feel that way, go enjoy!

Brazilian Embroidery Fair Pix #2

Yes, we survived this wickedly hot and weird week.  Monday 113f and yesterday, Friday...rain.  Today rain.  Humidity Uggh!  Go figure. First here is a pic of what the heat did to the poor Geraniums in the front window box!

Hubby called me at the shop the other day and "We're going to paint the outside of the house".  What?  Why now?  Will it really help sell out house I wonder?  Why couldn't we have done it earlier so we could enjoy living in a nicer looking house?  Whatever.  Here's the choices:

CHOICES, CHOICES hmm...Our house is a colonial, like the big southern plantation homes.  Hmmm...Just white, please.  Like the color it is now.  Maybe paint the door red instead of black and paint the shutters black like they are now, thank-you.  That was easy.  BTW, I'm not lifting a brush to help.  Wanted: Real men that know how to please, that know how to paint.  Thank you very much.

Now for the incredibly talented people of the embroidery world.  I love this type of embroidery I just didn't know the name of it.  I know, they just recently let me out from under that rock.  I love the 3-D effect.  Now I know what I want to do to embellish that darn jacket that hangs there everyday saying, "Aren't ya done with the kitchen yet?, When ya gonna work on me?"  The DH says no more spending (that means yarn and crafty stuff) since we are spending on the house fix up.  Maybe they have a Brazilian emb. book at the library?

They make petals with thread!

I have a bunch of embroidery thread and this would be an excellent way to use it up!
Sorry about the quality.  They are in display cases with glass doors and the lighting wasn't the best and then there's my lack of photo skills.  I cropped off part of the frames so you could see them better except for the last one so you could see the blue ribbon.  I liked this one but I wouldn't have chosen it for the blue ribbon however, I do like the cat.  There were so many and of all the pix, these were the best focused ones.  Actually, I'm glad I didn't have to choose the best one since they were all amazing.  Coming soon, the crochet pix.

Off to the grocery store for a variety of things to drink.  It's hot and muggy and I want beverages at my fingertips!  Have a wonderful fall weekend everyone!

Hey, It's Hot Here

Well so much for the mild summer as autumn would like to cook us.  I do believe the high here today in LA was 112F.  Yesterday at 109F was hotter than Saturday's temp. which was around 98F.  I didn't go to the fair on the hottest day!  Even at 3:30p when we got there, it was allot cooler than that.  We had a fun time and I have some pix to show ya soon.  I haven't been too busy at the shop today but I didn't think I would be.  The TV and radio media are busy telling everybody to stay indoors and keep outta the heat and that kills my business.  BUT, if I didn't have AC here I would have gone to my sis' at the beach and just stayed there until it cooled off.  So it's ice tea and cold food day.  We'll survive!  Hope you are in cooler territory and having a wonderful Monday!  I'm sure I'm not the only one dreaming of owning one of these right now!

I brought my new crochet project in to work on and I 'm glad I did, so now I'm gonna go work on it.

**********EDIT***********
OKAY, so we had a record breaker of 113F today and it's still hot out, 102F right now at 6:45p!  I'm not leaving the AC, I'm hanging out at the shop until about 9pm.  Maybe it will be cooler by then.  I hope so.

O' Happy Day to Ya

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
This is a young Hummingbird after she had just left the nest last Spring.  Her mama was close by watching.  She kept trying her new wings leaving and then coming back to this bush.  What a treat this was to witness.
I am grateful for all creatures large and small, for you and me, my family and friends.  Hug those close to you today and tell them that you love them.  Then eat turkey and all the trimmings to your heart's content.
What are you thankful for?
Have a wonderful day!

Pretty Autumn For You

I went to Tuesday Morning (it's a store) and found this:

Of course for now it will get packed away until after we move!  Such a deal.  They have great prices on closeout items.

Here are some of my plants and how they look right now:

This is almost ready to open.  It is an African Violet plant.  I have about 20 plants and this one is special.  I bought it at the Descanso African Violet Show and Sale last year and the flowers are oh, so pretty.

This is how she looked the following morning.  When she is in full bloom, I'll have more photos to show you then.

This is a Creeping Charlie plant.  Most people have this as an indoor plant.  I does well outside if not in direct sun and it even blooms when grown outdoors.  It will not tolerate extreme cold but does well here in So. Cal.

Here is a close up of the delicate blossoms.  White with purple freckles.

My Bromeliads are really going to town right now.  This is what they look like just before they open and show their small blue flowers.
Here is a close-up of the flowers.  A better one than a couple weeks ago!

Hope you're having a beautiful day!

Happy Halloween!

Hi, hope you have a safe and fun Halloween.  I haven't posted this week due to a power outage that occurred on Monday.  It blew out my front shipping/business computer and so we've been here late nights getting another computer up and running.  Ahhhggg!  Even fried the hard drive so nothing is recoverable.  But I'll get over it!  Here's a pic of a neighbor's house decorated all scary looking.  I wanted to get a pic at dusk, it would've been better with the blown up pumpkin and ghost..  I'm going down to my sis' and help with make-up, pumpkin carving and holding little hands for trick-or-treating tonight.  Will post pix next week.

Since I don't have any jack-o-lantern pictures, here are some orange flowers from my yard!

Have a beautiful day!

It's the 1st day of Autumn and my 1st Post!

Hi, I figured that today would be a good day to make my blogging debut since Fall has been my favorite time of year for quite awhile now.  Although it can still be hot here through October, the heat is almost over, vacations are over, the kids are back in school and everyone's getting into a new normalMy plan is to write everyday and would appreciate reader input.  The internet still fascinates me and I've already made friends online and we too, can be friends.

I'd better get going, it'll soon be time to open my shop and I have a display box to paint red this morning...

I hope that your Fall is filled with good-natured ghosts and goblins; great food, drink and happiness always.  Come back tomorrow and say, hi!
